MASSAGE AND FACIAL CUPPING

What is massage cupping?

Massage cupping is a modern take on the ancient Chinese art of cupping therapy. Silicone suction cups are moved over the body as a unique and relaxing way of applying myofascial techniques and deep tissue massage.

What is the difference between static cupping and massage cupping?

Stationary cupping, also referred to as static cupping, involves placing cups on the body and leaving them applied between 1 and 20 minutes to facilitate soft tissue release and joint mobilization.

This is the type of cupping that will usually leave temporary cupping marks that resemble large round hickeys.

While this type of cupping is very beneficial, the large bruise-like marks are a deal breaker for most people that may be interested in the benefits of cupping therapy.

Massage cupping or gliding cupping, as the name implies, is a method where oil or lotion is applied to the skin and the silicone cups are moved in a continuous and rhythmic fashion around the client’s body, rather than leaving them in one spot.

The cups become an extension of the therapist’s hands, and can be used therapeutically to treat the whole body or just specific areas of need.

Massage cupping provides the exact same benefits as traditional cupping but leaves no ugly marks on your body.

What is the difference between a deep tissue massage and massage cupping?

While traditional massage relaxes muscles, releases tension and helps bring fresh blood to the tissues by using direct pressure and compression; massage cupping uses negative pressure through suction to lift the muscle fibers, release toxins held in the muscular tissue, invigorate blood and lymph circulation, relieve chronic muscle tension and decompress the connective tissue.

Cupping is a gentler method of getting the same results as a deep tissue massage without the pain and discomfort of compression bodywork.

How does massage cupping work?

Using a mild suction, specialized silicone cups draw in superficial layers of skin and muscle.  The cup is then moved in a gliding motion across the body, resembling a massage. Oil or cream is used to help the cups glide effortlessly over the skin.

The suction reaches deep into the soft tissue, producing a “separation” in the tissue layers, enabling water absorption and renewed blood flow to undernourished tissue.  This has a sedating effect on the nervous system, while simultaneously pulling congestion and toxins from the body’s tissues.  This enables the skin and lymphatic system to easily eliminate them.

The suction lifts and releases rigid soft tissue as well as scars, adhesions and restrictions.

By clearing debris, creating drainage, and easing limited movement, this therapy relieves pain and promotes healthier tissue.

How does cupping feel?

Super relaxing!!  Cupping has a sedating effect on the nervous system, and many people find it profoundly calming.

After a cupping treatment, clients typically report feelings of warmth, relief, muscular release, lightness, pleasant tingling, and freedom from pain and with increase in flexibility and muscular control.

Is it painful?

Massage cupping is very relaxing and generally not painful. Some people who suffer from fibromyalgia or other chronic muscular disorders may feel minimal discomfort and should mention it to their therapist immediately so adjustments can be made.

Why should I try Massage Cupping?

Sometimes areas of tension or injury are simply too tense or tender to treat with certain therapeutic methods such as deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy or cross-fiber friction.

Massage cupping is a gentle, non-invasive way to soften broad areas of tension so that more specific massage techniques can be comfortably applied.
